The Dreadful Academy Awards

This year it was no different. It is seems that it gets increasingly worse as the years go by, the Academy strives to please the cultural critics rather than appealing to the public at large. It should recognize excellence, rather than politically correct social concerns as it now seems to be doing. But this time they didn't have George Bush to kick around.

My hatred for Sean Penn didn't change as he gave the worst speech of all for unnecessarily politicizing the event. If he wanted to make the case for gay marriage, he would have done better not to attack its opponents and make a positive argument instead. When Penn reads someone else’s lines, he does a remarkable job. He’s not so good with his own. While I grant he delivered an Oscar-worthy performance in Milk, he did little to endear himself to most Americans who go to the movies.
One would think that if If he wanted to make the case for gay marriage, he would have done better not to attack its opponents and make a positive argument instead.
But Come to think of it, has anyone ever heard the man utter a coherent sentence?

I have found them to pointless self indulging acts of necrotic liberal elitist. Or as I refer to them...useless idiots.

Although, I am upset Clint Eastwood didn't win for Gran Torino

TME..I am SO SO sick of the Left telling us off. I'm sitting in my living room deigning to watch the awards nonsense (I have to admit the clothes intrigue and sometimes delight me) and I have to hear him smack down everything I hold near and dear, right?
This is why Mr and Mrs Z don't go to the movies anymore. sad, isn't it.

I would rather live through a wicked bad hangover for a whole day than to watch that pukeass Penn for 5 minutes, so I didn't watch the awards at all, not that I really missed anything much anyway. I don't remember exactly what I was doing at the time, probablt taking a dump!

Many of these actors are a pathetic lot. They can't think of anything to say, so they mimic the left. They can go on stage and repeat what other wrote, dance and take there clothes off, but they can't write a simple paragraph on there own.
P.S. I can utter a coherent sentence.

Reminds me of his self-aggrandizing, highly publicized and surgically filmed Katrina 'rescues'. I didn't watch the Oscars because a) celebrities these days make my vomit b) I'm not an industry professional (there's an oxymoron) and c) I don't care. Sean Penn will remain at most an anecdote in my memory as 'Jeff Spicolli'.

Why wouldn't somebody use the opportunity while on almost-live TV to make a statement on politics or just raise a ruckus? I know I would.
In fact, I can't think of a better place to occasionally be political. Movies often reflect the social climate of the time they're made in. Or deal with politics themselves. the 81st Oscars haven't been the first time, and sure as heck won't be the last time, politics collide with the Academy.
I also don't think people with liberal views should be besmirched along with Sean Penn. I'm okay with Gay marriage, and while I would hardly call myself left or liberal, lots of people would choose to label me so. But I'm not okay with Sean Penn. He's a good actor, but on the subject of his Oscar, it was stolen from more deserving actors.

Penn was assured a win due to the political statement it made.

I didn't watch and usually don't, and one reason is the self-righteousness of the political statements made whenever there is a gathering of celebs patting each other on the back. It's so annoying to have actors thinking they can set the standard for what is good and right in this country.

The absolute best part of Penn's speech? When he said he was proud that we elected an "elegant man" to the White House right after his touting of gay marriage and maligning anyone who opposes it. I guess he missed the fact that Obama opposes gay marriage.

Personally I could care less who's zooming whom, but if you're going to knock down one group for their beliefs (those who opposed gay marriage) don't laude someone else who has the exact same beliefs (Obama). It just goes to show how out of touch, brainwashed, and blatantly stupid Penn really is.

Watching anything that has to do with "Hollywood" is a waste of my time!

We were just as appalled as our jaws dropped during Penn's speech at the Academy Awards.

I second the Conservative Scalawag.

I enjoy the Oscars when they commend people for good work. But I can't stand the egotistical crap.

I agree with everything you said but a good Sean Penn movie is the very offcenter U-Turn with J-lo and Nick Nolte. Alec Baldwin brings out the same emotions but loved him in Glengarry Glen Ross but I never sit through the Oscars, just watch what I like on DVD when it comes out.

Sean Penn - a total waste of skin, an idiot, a socialist without even knowing what that really means. All he knows is that being a communist sympathiser is the ultimate anti American mentality and that is why he and other Hollyweird elitists love rogue dictators. I hate Hollywood, this country would be better off if the damn place sank into the ocean......check out my blog
